Galveston County Health District is seeking a County Indigent Claims Administrator!

The right candidate will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of hospital and specialty claims administered through the Galveston County indigent healthcare fund.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or professional experience deemed comparable.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience processing and administering healthcare claims.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical abilities.
  • Data entry skills.
  • Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles.
  • Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable.
  • Customer Service Oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Computer Skills MS Office.
  • Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary.
  • Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening.

An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.  

Traditional Duties:

  • Responsible for administering claims payments and maintaining claims records for hospital and specialty services provided to residents of Galveston County enrolled in the county indigent healthcare program.
  • Serves as a liaison with primary stakeholders, including representatives from Coastal Health & Wellness, the University of Texas Medical Branch, the County of Galveston, additional healthcare providers servicing patients enrolled in the county indigent program, and third-party administration support.
  • Monitors and controls backlog and workflow of claims.
  • Ensures that claims are settled in a timely fashion and in accordance with cost control standards.
  • Meets and consistently maintains production standards for claims adjudication.
  • Supports department initiatives in improving overall efficiency.
  • Oversees the reduction of defects by identifying error issues as they relate to pre-payment of claims through adjudication and recommends solutions to resolve these issues.
  • Retains meticulous notes and records for each claim.
  • When necessary, procures medical records and statements that support claims.
  • Immediately escalates issues related to claims or payments to Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
