Vecino Health Centers is seeking a full-time Eligibility Specialist – Bilingual (English/Spanish) for our Denver Harbor Family Clinic.

The Eligibility Specialist will assist clients with registration and program eligibility paperwork and provide follow-up support on eligibility. This position is also responsible for assisting patients with appointment scheduling. The Eligibility Specialist will work with other positions such as: Providers, Health Plans, State Eligibility Worker and the front desk. This position will be required to cross train and fill in within other Operations Departments.

The requirements of the Eligibility Specialist – Bilingual (English/Spanish)) position are as follows:

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greet patients and update registration forms as necessary.
  • Educate patients on clinic procedures relative to payment of services sliding fee program.
  • Collect and assess patient financial documentation for determining sliding fee eligibility
  • Ensure Program eligibility forms are completed as required for the following programs when necessary: Medicaid, Medicare, and other programs.
  • Verify insurance eligibility for all patients prior to the appointment.
  • Educate patients and families on insurance coverage and co-payments.
  • Schedule patient appointments in accordance with clinic guidelines.
  • Contact patients within 24 hours of appointment via telephone.
  • Coordinate with Medicaid Eligibility Worker regarding eligibility status updates.
  • Assist with pulling, filing and creation of charts as needed
  • Work as member of a front desk team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with all staff in all departments.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Minimum one three years’ experience in a medical office including at least one year of relative experience.
  • Must be comfortable working with financial documents (tax returns, pay stubs, etc.) and evaluating them relative to program eligibility
  • Proficiently use the computer medical management software entering and updating patient information as required, including, daily input of patient and insurance information.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance eligibility requirements.
  • Skill in organizing time and managing multiple demands.
  • Skill in dealing with patients and visitors as well as other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment in work prioritization
  • Ability to complete difficult/complex tasks.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and stoop for (long) periods of time
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally/frequently
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to respond to emergency/crisis situations
  • Exposure to noise
  • Some evenings and weekend work required as necessary
