The Equitable Access Team works to ensure that everyone has access to the information, resources, and education needed to move HFB towards its vision of "a world that doesn't need food banks". The Community Health Distribution Coordinator is a part of the Equitable Access Team and provides distribution and programmatic support for the team. This position is responsible for coordinating all aspects of community health distributions and may be responsible for operating a company vehicle. This position displays exemplary customer service to individuals while helping the department achieve poundage goals through highly efficient processes. This position interacts heavily with the public and must be friendly, outgoing, and comfortable speaking in front of groups. Responsibilities include collaborating with internal departments. Greeting, training, and supervising volunteers while maintaining the safety of the food supply chain and other compliance initiatives. Other responsibilities include assisting with the Community Health Market trailer when needed. Staff in this position must be passionate about helping others and believe in HFB's mission of Food for Better Lives.


Reliable, consistent, on-site attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and participating in meetings and presentations.

  1. Identify and Grow Opportunities for Advocacy and Collaboration by working with internal departments to identify willing partners and serve as a liaison to HFB partners for opportunities to advocate and collaborate to meet the needs in the community
  2. Create, improve, and implement process flows to leverage food for better lives in partnership with community members, and internal staff
  3. Represent HFB in the community to build relationships
  4. Develop and provide training and educational opportunities for partners to better understand the equity and advocacy work we do
  5. Identify community partners to increase equity in areas with limited access to food and other resources and work cross-departmentally to develop short- and long-term solutions
  6. Recruit, train, and manage volunteers at Community Health Distributions when needed
  7. Train individuals and ensure client intake is completed during distributions when needed
  8. Collect feedback from Community Health Market Trailer partners and clients and develop best practices

While performing the duties of the job, the associate is required daily to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a standing or stationary position for a significant amount of the workday; and frequently access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The associate is regularly required to move about the office and around the facility, use hands, wrists, and fingers to grip, type, and write. The associate will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The associate is occasionally required to travel to other sites for business.

While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to freezers, enclosed and/or tight spaces, wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).


Travel is required for this position up to 75% of the time to partner sites, and on a domestic basis within our 18-county service area. This role supports all hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities as necessary and requires a flexible work schedule.
