The Assistant Director, Leadership Giving engages in the qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the Leadership Giving donor segment to advance philanthropic support for The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The Assistant Director, Leadership Giving will develop and strategically manage a portfolio of Leadership Giving donors, seeking to qualify interest and connection points for further engagement with the institution.


This fundraiser will foster relationships between the donor and the institution through regular contact with personal visits, phone calls, and other engagement opportunities. This position includes frequent travel with overnight stays. The team will actively and frequently qualify this segment of donors with a goal to develop donors' lifelong relationships with MD Anderson ensuring interested donors are involved at a level, and in opportunities, where they are joyfully engaged and best able to support the institution.


The ideal candidate is adept in professional and sophisticated communications, is diligent and authentic in his or her approach, has a natural curiosity with active listening skills and a collaborative spirit.


KEY FUNCTIONS


Portfolio Management/Donor Engagement

  • Build and manage a portfolio of donors in the $5,000 to $100,000 segment
  • Actively and meaningfully engage and solicit donors through face-to-face visits, phone calls, site visits and other high-engagement activities
  • Develop strategic moves management plans to upgrade and renew gifts and create unique opportunities to engage and steward donors with a goal of bringing the donor closer to the institution through philanthropy



Donor Qualification

  • Proactively contact donors from the Leadership Giving pool for qualification
  • Qualify prospects for Leadership Giving and in preparation for transitioning the donor through the donor continuum to Major Gifts, Planned Giving and other areas



Communication, Teamwork and Professional Development

  • Participate in gift officer training program promoting self-growth and professional development
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with donors, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Document activity and results of all substantive contacts with donors in CRM
  • Actively participate in small teams and working groups for various divisional initiatives as requested



EDUCATION


Required: Bachelor's degree.


EXPERIENCE


Required: Two years of direct fund-raising experience.


Preferred: Experience with a healthcare or higher education institution and two years of experience in a development/fundraising capacity working directly with donors (does not have to be direct solicitation experience).
