This position prepares, analyzes and records financial transactions, applying generally accepted accounting principles.  The work performed is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and may utilize other business disciplines and terminology in areas of management, business law, statistics and finance. This position will uphold the mission, philosophy, and goals of the organization while maintaining strict confidentiality of personnel and patient information in the performance of assigned duties.

PHYSICAL LOCATION:

  • Moody Neurorehabilitation Institute, Galveston, TX

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the day to day operations of the accounting department.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare accounting entries which accurately and timely record business transactions for both Moody Neurorehabilitation Institute and The Moody Endowment.
  • Oversees preparation and accuracy of supporting schedules for balance sheets reconciliations each month.
  • Oversees fixed asset detail and related deprecation calculations.
  • Prepares monthly statement of financial position, profit and loss statements and other reports to summarize current and projected company financial position in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Maintains current balances of restricted grant funds.
  • Audits contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of accounting specialists in performing their tasks accurately and timely.
  • Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • Prepares supporting documentation required for annual audits and preparation of tax returns.
  • Work with other leaders in preparing annual budget information as well as analyzing variances to budget.
  • Regular interaction with outside entities, i.e. vendors, insurance companies, banks, in order to obtain information needed to accurately record and report respective entity’s financial position.
  • Other variance and financial needs to ensure accuracy or reported information or proposed financial improvements.
  • Prepares and coordinates information, analysis and responses for external auditors.
  • Other duties as needed by CFO in the fulfillment of his\her duties and responsibilities. 

Minimum Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and tasks
  • Must understand all aspects of the accounting department and be able to lead staff in carrying out their duties
  • Must ensure that staff are cross-trained to cover planned or unplanned absences to ensure the duties of the department are handled in a timely and effective manner
  • Strong data entry and 10-Key skills
  • Strong computer skills and MUST have significant experience using Excel & Word.
  • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to learn and use third party accounting software, experience with Sage Intacct preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
  • CPA or MBA preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years, preferably 5, of relevant experience in a controller level position; not-for-profit experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years, preferably 5, of supervising others in an accounting department; not-for-profit experience preferred

  • Depth perception - three-dimensional vision. The ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are they actually are.
  • Field of vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while the eyes are fixed on a given point.
  • Accommodation - adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from the eye.
