Galveston County Health District is seeking an Animal Services Manager!

The right candidate will be responsible for managing and assisting the Director of Animal Services in the daily operations of the Animal Resource Center in accordance with areas served as designated in the Animal Services Interlocal Agreement.

Required:

· Associates degree required; bachelors’ degree in a related field, preferred

· Animal related and/or business/management related certification and coursework preferred.

· 1+ years of experience in the areas of animal care work as related to essential job functions

· 1+ years of supervisory experience

· Knowledge of general business practices, laws and ordinances related to humane animal control helpful

· Skill in handling large and vicious animals; using various animal care and control equipment including catch poles, leashes, muzzles, traps etc. as well as administering injections to dogs, cats and wild animal is strongly preferred

· Current euthanasia certification preferred (must be certified within 6 months of hire date)

· Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles

· Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

· Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable

· Customer Service Oriented

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Excellent Computer Skills MS Office

· Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary

· Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy

· Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements

· Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening

 

An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.

 

Traditional Duties

· Assists the Director of Animal Services as needed with the management and daily oversight of the Animal Services Division

· Oversees and provides quality assurance for the division’s daily operations with assistance from animal services Animal Care Technician Leads

· Assists with business transactions such as posting transactions into animal services database, daily deposits, compliance with cashier protocols, purchasing, inventory and asset tracking etc.

· Assists in the development of division standard operating procedures (SOPs) and monitors compliance with established SOPs and Health District policies and procedures

· Assists with drafting animal services reports for dissemination to the District’s city and county partners, including assisting the Director of Animal Services with gathering data and information for special reports

· Assesses customer feedback, recommends customer service improvements and seeks customer service training for staff

· Collects information regarding citizen complaints

· Maintains contact with federal, state and other local governmental entities through consultations, information exchanges, contracts, policies and complaint referrals

· Writes accurate technical reports and disseminates animal services data as it pertains to various situations

· May perform or assist with euthanasia according to policy and procedure

· Documents drug usage according to policy and procedure

· Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
