HHD seeks one (1) Nurse Practitioner for Health and Multi-Service Center Operations to provide PrEP, nPEP, and other biomedical HIV prevention and sexual health services, including assessment and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). 

 

This position will report to the HHD Division Manager and may provide services across four (4) HHD health centers as well as HHD mobile clinics that are primarily funded through a cooperative agreement with the US HHS Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The successful candidate will assess public health patients’ physical health status, perform prescribed physical examinations, and perform preventive health treatments. 

 

Job duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assess public health patients’ physical health status
  • Perform prescribed physical examinations
  • Perform preventive health treatments
  • Provide Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and non-occupational Post Exposure Prophylaxis (nPEP) biomedical HIV prevention services
  • Provide sexual health services during non-traditional hours on HHD mobile clinics
  • Provide other sexual health services, including assessment and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Request, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ clinical concerns and health care needs
  • Identify patients’ health status deviations
  • Consult with and/or refer patients to physicians and appropriate health care professionals
  • Interview patients and record their health and social history via an electronic medical record system
  • Monitor patient records for inclusion of appropriate findings and recommendations
  • Participate in quality improvement activities
  • Interpret health assessment information to formulate and implement health care plans according to established policies and procedures, often based on CDC guidance
  • Coordinate and administer prescribed medications and therapeutic agents
  • Collaborate with the Bureau of HIV/STD and Viral Hepatitis Prevention as needed
  • Other duties that may arise

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM EDUCATION 

Requires a Master’s degree in advanced practice nursing (or completion of an advanced educational program of study appropriate for practice in an advance nursing specialty) recognized by the Board of Nursing Examiner. 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

One year of experience as a Registered Nurse is required.


MINIMUM LICENSE / CERTIFICATION

Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Practicing Nurse in the State of Texas.

PREFERENCES

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), the ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish
  • Working knowledge of HIV (history, epidemiological profile, transmission, prevention, treatment, sociopolitical issues)
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours
  • Working knowledge of quality management and quality improvement methodologies
  • Working knowledge of health policies and regulations impacting HIV prevention activities
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple, diverse assignments
  • Demonstrated experience working with professional and clinical staff
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work comfortably with communities highly impacted by HIV and other STIs, including but not limited to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) individuals, gender non-conforming individuals, people who inject drugs, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and other basic email and web software

None. However, the Department may administer a skills assessment test.

SALARY INFORMATION   Grant Funded

Grant and Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred.   Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
